How do historians reason?

I posted on Blackboard a paper by Sam Wineburg (wineburg1998.pdf) - it looks at how expert historians reason. One question you could explore - how does it compare to what engineers do (revisiting Noddings' question from last week). Another question - the study has a domain general / domain specific aspect in that two expert historians are studied - each having different "specific" expertise in a historical content area --> what do you think Wineburg would have to add to the general-specific critical thinking debate?
